Spring Music Festival
Natalie Harrington ‘27
The Music Department at Greens Farms Academy is introducing a new Spring Music Festival on Tuesday, March 3rd on the GFA campus! There will be various performances spanning across many genres, from Mozart to Frank Sinatra to Harold Arlen.
These productions will be spread throughout the Greens Farms campus. Starting in the PAC, there will be a play titled, ‘Wild Strawberries’ taking place. Be sure to read our other piece in this week's newsletter to hear more about the play and its director! Moving to the G wing, there will be choir, band, orchestra, and small group performances spread throughout each room. This allows the audience at the festival to get a taste for all of the pieces at different times, in a more digestible manner!
The Choir will be performing songs in varying styles, spanning from ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ by Mozart (which is in Latin!) to ‘We Shall Overcome’ by Pete Seeger, and more. The Band will be performing a jazzy piece by Frank Sinatra titled, ‘Day In The Life of A Fool’, along with many other lively songs! The Orchestra will be hitting us with a wave of nostalgia by playing a version of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ and Brandenburg by Bach, where Claire Woodbury will play a short violin solo!
Alongside these spectacular musical displays, there will be numerous small groups, trios, and collaborative performances between band, orchestra, and choir! Orchestra and Choir will be performing ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ together for an emotionally charged piece. Choir will have various other small group presentations, including ‘Creep’ by Radiohead, sung by Natalie Harrington, with the accompaniment of Silvana Hernandez and Jose Tamayo, and ‘My Girl’ sung by Briggs Davidson, Oliver Adams, and Casey Simon.
In an interview with Mr. Fishman, the Upper and Middle School Choir teacher, he was asked about how the preparations for the festival were coming. “Very swimmingly,” he said, with a smile on his face, which made the hearts of the performing arts section very happy! There is clearly a lot of talent that deserves to be celebrated, so we hope to see many bright, smiling faces cheering on fellow students at the Spring Arts Festival on March 3rd!
