Performing Arts at GFA

The Performing Arts department at GFA is booming, with two plays on the rise for the Spring season! The first play, ‘Wild Strawberries’ is a humorous tale about love, disguises, inheritance, mistaken identities, and the excitement of a good meal. Briana Gomez, in her 2nd directing position at Greens Farms Academy, will be conducting this production. The performances will be on Tuesday, March 3rd at the Spring Arts Festival at GFA, and on Saturday March 14th in Hartford at the Connecticut Drama Association Competition. Get ready to see some familiar performing arts student faces, including Minna Reily and Hanna Marcus, alongside James Schumacher, Olivia Dunev, Zacchaeus Smart, and more on stage! “It’s going really well,” says Gomez, “this is our 4th year competing, so we are just gearing up for the competition!” We encourage everyone to show their support for this amazing cast, and we wish everyone the best of luck at the competition!
The second play in the Spring is a Shakespearean piece titled, ‘Macbeth’ directed by Ms. Comer, with the help of Mr. Coll! This story is about a Scottish general named Macbeth, who is led by supernatural forces, and his own ambition, to make his way to the throne. Along the way, he makes questionable choices, with the help of his wife Lady Macbeth, and together they face some rather bloody challenges. Auditions were held on Wednesday, February 18th after school in the Black Box from 3:15 - 6:30 PM. As stated in Ms. Comer and Mr. Coll's email, auditioners came prepared with a monologue from the play to showcase their acting abilities. The castlist is an exciting mix of students, with Briana Gomez and Nora Glynn playing Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, and many other familiar faces, including Alexis Campbell and Oliver Adams! Upcoming rehearsals for the show will be held AFTER spring break, as a part of the spring sports season. Rehearsals will take place a few times a week after school from 3:15 - 5:00 PM. The show dates are April 24th and 25th in the Performing Arts Center! On behalf of the Performing Arts Department, we would love to see the same enthusiasm for this show that we saw for ‘Chicago’ in the fall! We hope you can come with excitement and an open mind to this experience.
More details will follow in the coming weeks as ‘Macbeth’ progresses and ‘Wild Strawberries’ performances take place, so keep an eye out for new information. Thanks for reading, and we look forward to seeing student faces on stage in both productions!
