Lana Del Rey Fans Furious After Midnights Mishap

By Shea Trevett ‘26

39 days after Taylor swift announced the release of her new album Midnights, she disclosed that the fourth track on the album would be titled “Snow On The Beach” and feature Lana Del Rey. Although this was a surprise to all, many speculated that Lana Del Rey would be on the album. Just minutes after the announcement, all of social media was talking about the soon-to-come and long-awaited ‘Tay-Lana song.’

The collaboration on the album with Lana Del Rey inevitably sparked much more conversation and anticipation around the album. And then two days before the release of Midnights, “Snow On The Beach” leaked. It is still unclear how this song was leaked by the internet, but there is speculation that it might have something to do with the fact that Lana’s laptop and phone were stolen several months ago. The leaked audio spread across the internet.

While many fans wanted to wait to listen to the song through its official release, the fans who did listen to the leaked audio reported utter disappointment. Lana Del Rey has always asked her fans not to listen to her leaked music, but there were definitely a lot of fans who were just too curious. In the leaked audio, Lana is only heard singing background vocals and not even having a verse. This was bad news for both Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift fans alike, but most were hoping that the leaked audio was a demo of the song and that the official release would include Lana’s verse.

On October 21, when Midnights finally dropped, this hope that the leak was a demo sadly ended up not being the case; the leaked version of the song was the same as the official release. Although “Snow On The Beach” is an overall good song, fans reported feeling outraged and disappointed by the situation. Lana fans went to TikTok to express their reactions: “yeah we lost,” states @lolalesad; “I’m DONE with Taylor Swift! Yup yup yup,” states @backbenderbolin; “Taylor Lanabaited us,” states @rowanhagey; “we wanted a VERSE or even a bridge. The harmony slaps, but like… that's all?!?!” states @spiderscorpse; and “I am disappointed,” states @honeymoon333.

Keeping this all in mind, “Snow On The Beach” is currently the third most streamed song off of Midnights and went on to break the record for the biggest female collaboration debut in all of Spotify history.
