GFA Community Service Board Helps With Thanksgiving Food Drive
By Grace Owen ‘26
The Greens Farms Academy Community Service club has many events planned to help others, including the upcoming Thanksgiving Food drive on Saturday, November 19, which aids Operation Hope.
GFA encourages students to be “innovative, inclusive, and globally minded” in its mission statement, which is exactly what the Community Service club strives to accomplish. The club organizes events to keep the community connected and happy with large events planned with other schools and organizations, along with smaller things planned for just within the school.
The next prominent event that the Community Service club will be organizing is the Thanksgiving food drive, which will provide the GFA community with yet another opportunity to brighten the lives of others. All the food collected will go to Operation Hope, a Fairfield-based organization which works to eliminate food insecurity and homelessness in the area. We have the opportunity to refill their pantry with all our donations for the Thanksgiving season.
As Operation Hope feeds many people struggling to put food on the table, this Thanksgiving refill is extraordinarily important to keep this wonderful organization feeding as many people as it possibly can. Last year, Operation Hope provided 172,000 meals to those in need and could feed even more this year with our help.
The Community Service club holds many other events and provides many opportunities for GFA students to help others throughout the year, including helping an elder care center, connecting with children from other schools through Best Buddies, and helping out at our Regional Hospice in Danbury.
If you are interested in helping the community in any way, big or small, please stop by the next Community Service meeting on Tuesday!
