With the arrival of the 2023-2024 school year, the Greens Farms Academy Upper School welcomed five new faculty members to its ranks across a wide variety of departments.
The Science department welcomed Carly Borken, who teaches Advanced Environmental Science and Marine Science. A graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Borken specializes in marine biology and environmental sustainability. Students and teachers alike shouldn’t be surprised to see Borken collecting data in the marsh or measuring samples at Burying Hill Beach this year.
The History Department’s newest teacher is Isabella Ferrante, a GFA graduate in the class of 2015 who teaches 9th Grade World History and 10th Grade AP US History. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Ferrante returned to GFA in 2020 to co-teach various Middle School courses and is thrilled to now be teaching in the Upper School.
Berni Lally joined the Computer Science Department this past fall as a computer science, design, and engineering teacher, as well as the new coach of the GFA Robotics team. Lally is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and is excited to shareher passions of computer programming and robotic engineering to GFA students.
The English Department is thrilled to welcome Jordan Schnell, who will also be serving as the 11th Grade Dean. Schnell, a graduate of Loyola University Maryland, has had a more than twenty year career in teaching positions in the humanities and administrative roles at various independent schools.
Last but not least, Sophia Wang joined the World Languages department as a Mandarin Teacher. Wang earned her Bachelor’s Degree at a university in China and worked as a language teacher there before moving to the United States. A resident of Westport and active participant in the local Chinese community, Wang taught at several public schools across Fairfield County before joining GFA.
